Downs Walks
Bible meditations and praise inspired by the beauty of God's creation on the Bristol Downs. The space and peace afforded by the natural environment allows each person to meet with God in their own way and at their own pace, with oportunity for reflection on the day's topic as we walk. Children are able to take in some of God's beauty whilst being able to expend their energy at the same time.
Each walk has the following parts:
- 3 short readings developing a theme including Bible passages, prayers and poems from the books below and other reflections. The themes are inspired by events of the time of year both in the natural and human worlds
- A walk of around a mile around part of the Downs, not too long for the little ones, the terrain is mostly level grass with some slightly rougher places in the wooded areas which could normally be avoided if necessary
- A stop for refreshments. This may be juice or hot chocolate and biscuits in a scenic location or in the Downs Café by the Water Tower if the weather forecast looks less pleasant
Books used for the walks:
- The Bristol Downs: A Natural History Year. by Geraldine Taylor.
- Celtic Wheel of the Year by Tess Ward
- Tides and Seasons: Modern Prayers in the Celtic Tradition by David Adam
